I am getting queries about the newest fall fashion trends, so it seems that everyone was in the mood for fall fashion even after the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ended. As we look through our closets and decide what stays and what goes, as well as what we might want to add in preparation for fall, everyone wants to know what’s in and what’s out.
I believe that many of the patterns we saw last fall are reappearing this autumn, but we are embracing the trends that were on the outskirts last season. Many of the fall fashion trends from the previous season are still in style, but some were difficult to locate in major retailers in the early fall of last year and are now widely available. Of course, there are also a few brand-new, emerging trends. Oh, the leopard.
A Word About Fashion Trends
I have to disclaim a few things while talking about fashion trends, as usual. Initially, I am examining mainstream stores that are frequented by regular women who read my blog. These are all widely available at popular retail stores like Evereve, LOFT, Anthropologie, etc., yet depending on where you live, you might think that some of them are already out of style or that no one is wearing them yet.
Of course, you don’t have to wear anything simply because it’s “having a moment.” You can use this information however you see fit. Fashionable ladies are aware of current trends and carefully select pieces for their wardrobes based on how well they complement their own tastes, body types, and lifestyles.
Lastly, keep in mind that this is not a comprehensive list of fall trends. Many of the items I haven’t included here are still in vogue, but these are the ones that have caught my attention thus far and most closely match my personal tastes.
Ultimately, regardless of what the “trend reports” suggest, you should dress how you feel. Here are 12 practical 2024 fall fashion trends for regular women, though, if you like to stay up to date.
Fall Fashion Trends: What’s IN For 2024
For your shopping convenience, I have included further examples of each trend in the widgets at the conclusion of each section, and I have made an effort to include a range of merchants and pricing ranges. If you want further information, you can click on those. As always, I’m grateful if you use my links to support my work by making purchases!
#1. Wide Leg Jeans
Really, didn’t you realize that I had to start here? Indeed, my friends, wide leg silhouettes are still all the rage in the denim sections of my favorite stores, and I’m gradually starting to see more regular ladies wearing them. In addition, I’m delighted to see more full-length designs making an appearance for fall, as I find styling them with boots and other closed-toe footwear to be far simpler. They also look well on most ladies, elongating them.
If you don’t like wide leg jeans, you can wear anything right now. We will talk about more denim trends later this week. Wearing jeans that fit well is less important for looking current than how you dress them.
#2. Cropped Jackets
My fall wardrobe would not be complete without outfit-completing coats, and this year cropped jackets are making a resurgence, presumably because they look great with high-rise and wide-leg denim types. They also look good with straight-leg jeans and flares, in my opinion. I’m seeing a wide range of materials, including denim and blends of wool and twill.
#3. Skirts
Skirts are making a comeback as a key component of the autumn 2024 wardrobe after being neglected for a while. Denim skirts come in a variety of lengths, but the long, straight designs are especially popular. Pleated skirts are becoming more popular, and satiny bias-cut skirts are still in style. Also in style are miniskirts.
Your skirts go well with both dressy and casual ensembles. They look great with sneakers, knee boots, pointy-toe slingbacks, and squared-off Mary Janes.
#4. Vests
For spring, vests were very popular, but they were a little difficult to obtain and the better ones went quickly. They’re all over this fall. Suit vests, like the one above, are quite popular right now, and sweater vests are also very popular.
Wear your vests as separate tops now, and for fall, wear them layered over a tee or tank. Regarding what to wear with them, as previously mentioned, I’m seeing a lot of vests—sweater and suit—paired with denim skirts. They go well with jeans as well. If you want a more formal appearance for work or other occasions, you may wear them with matching or non-matching pants.
#5. Breton Stripes
Even in the fall, stripes are still popular, especially Breton stripes. Adding a contemporary piece to your existing wardrobe has never been easier, and there are plenty of possibilities for placement and width that will suit every body type.
#6. Pop of Red
Red is ruling all trend lists; we’ll discuss more about color trends later this week. Although there are many red dresses and shirts available, I think it’s more appropriate to add a red item as a splash of color. Consider wearing a red ball cap, red sneakers, red Mary Janes (like the ones above), red sling bags, red belts, or even red shoes.
#7. Trousers
This season, relaxed pants are still very popular. The chicest way to wear them is with sneakers for a striking contrast, but this is also great news for individuals who require workwear. Right now, there are a ton of excellent non-denim choices available.
In addition to the relaxed silhouettes, there are straight and flared versions to choose from. The subtle brown and black checked pattern of the LOFT Sutton Flares, which I styled last spring, is back for fall.
#8. Ladylike Shoes
Pointed-toe flats, kitten heels (particularly slingback designs), ballet flats, and Mary Janes are all huge this season. To embrace the “era of elegance” that is becoming popular, pair them with dresses or skirts; alternatively, pair them with jeans for a chic contrast.
#9. Textured Knitwear
While browsing all of my favorite stores, I observed that knitwear has a lot more texture and design than typically does. I haven’t seen this included in any trend lists that I’ve seen. It’s clear that less simple designs and more intriguing elements are becoming popular again.
#10. Brown Footwear & Accessories
This season, brown hues, particularly those with rich chocolate undertones, are popular in footwear. I became aware of this last year, but I’m all for it since it seems to be picking up steam for fall 2024. I think these warmer, richer tones are incredibly enjoyable and refreshing after years of wearing a lot of taupe and light beige. Additionally, they look great with the returning darker denim washes of the season.
#11. Leopard Print
Indeed, the leopard reappeared after a little minute of absence. I just can’t let it go. Leopard prints are available in various forms at all of the big merchants, and they are featured on almost every 2024 Fall Trends list that I have seen.
Perhaps you’re thinking, “Leopard was never gone.” It’s timeless.
Yes, leopard is a classic print that is always in style, but a few years ago it was so popular that the major mainstream merchants just stopped carrying it. When a style becomes popular all at once, it is typically what happens. Additionally, reintroducing a style usually results in a slightly altered appearance from the previous time it was popular.
I think the leopard prints this time around are a tad more refined, elegant, and abstract. Hence, the greatest suggestion I’ve heard is to compare any leopard print items you have in your closet to those you find in stores that most closely match your own style to determine whether or not they seem contemporary.
I’m starting from fresh in that area because I pretty much gave away every animal print I have, including my cherished ATM cheetah tee that I owned for a few seasons. This season, I don’t want to buy a lot of leopard, but I might add one or two well-chosen pieces to my fall outfit.
Final Thoughts on What’s IN for Fall 2024
Although there are undoubtedly other fall fashion trends for 2024, these are a few of the more well-known ones that I’ve already observed. In later posts, I’ll go into greater detail about the latest trends in shoes, colors, denim, and accessories.
Remember, trends are only that—trends. Certain ones remain longer than others, and others come and go. Simply disregard it if it’s not your style. Not sure what to do? Before investing in a more costly item, try it out with something cheaper. In the event that any of those trends resonate with your personal style, you may want to invest a little more time in them over the next months.
Fall Fashion Trends: What’s OUT For 2024
Because trend cycles are shifting so frequently and nothing is truly “out,” I nearly eliminated this section this year. In contrast, some of us could find particular styles dated or less common in retailers. Thus, in line with “What’s IN for 2024,” this list should be regarded with caution.
You may rock your go-to taupe ankle boots with side cutouts and a low shaft without anyone telling you not to. You act as you. Nonetheless, I think this is a fairly decent place to start if you’re interested in learning about some of the looks that are now losing ground to the biggest trends.
- boots and taupe shoes Though the darker browns and warmer tones are more in style right now, it’s not like you aren’t seeing any of these possibilities, and they don’t necessarily appear antiquated. They’re also a simple method to switch up your wardrobe because brown shoes are currently available in practically every design.
- Booties with low shafts Although we became accustomed to thinking of lower shaft booties (3′′ or 4′′ shafts) as the standard since they paired so well with the ankle-length skinny jeans that ruled the fashion scene for so long, they aren’t quite as classic as the ankle boots with the more typical 5′′ or 6′′ shafts. Additionally, higher shaft ankle boots are making a comeback because wide legs and flares are currently in style.
- Jeggings Though they are currently very much on the periphery, low rise skinny jeans may be making a comeback. Whether or not they do, however, is still to be seen. If you do wear thin jeans, the style to go for these days is more of a narrow straight cigarette leg and higher rise than the skin-tight leggings (jeggings) we wore in the 2010s with our long tunics and low-shaft ankle boots.
- Tunic shirts: Probably because they go so well with slim jeans, tunic tops have become obsolete. I’m glad to see this look go, even though I’m sure it will ultimately resurface in some capacity. This look wasn’t flattering on the majority of us.
- Extended cardigans Although they’re not trendy right now, long cardigans occasionally make sense. If you adore them, pair them with contemporary pieces, just like you would with any other timeless look that isn’t precisely in vogue right now.
- Motorcycle coats While moto jackets are a classic, I think they’re looking dated right now. I know I’ll get some flak for saying this. The renowned AllSaints Dalby, which normally sells out quickly, was included in this year’s #NSale, and I saw that it remained completely supplied the entire time. A boxy cropped jacket or bomber jacket is a more fashionable substitute.
- Shackets While there are still some shackets around, most of them are not the large, gaudy ones that were popular a few years ago. In my opinion, the boxy, cropped shirt jackets—like this KUT from the Kloth Zinnia—look more fashionable right now.
- Wearing leggings as pants In my humble view, they never should have existed, but aside from athleisure wear, they’re not anything I see in the current fashion. Teenagers still wear them, of course, but adult ladies who like to seem put together and professional are the target audience for this blog. I would keep my leggings for the gym if that describes you. You may even pair them with a stylish trench or wool car coat if you plan to wear them out and about. A stylish pair of ponte pants would be a more fashionable option.
That concludes our discussion! I want to know what you think. It’s perfectly OK to wear a range of styles and rotate them in and out of your closet based on your budget, just keep in mind that trends come in many forms. All of the items on this list are still available for purchase, so you don’t need to stop wearing them. I just wouldn’t advise buying more of these this season, unless it’s something that really makes your style stand out.
