There are a tonne of articles discussing the fall/winter fashion trends at this time of year. Additionally, certain trends—like a colour or a pair of slim jeans—may appear approachable at times, but most fashion trends aren’t. It is limited to specific skin tones, bank account sizes and forms, and bodily types, skills, or sizes. I prefer to refer to the fall/2024 fashion trend as Americana Chic, and it appears to be one of the most approachable trends in a long time.
Americana Chic: The Most Accessible Fashion Trend of Fall/Winter 2024
Beyoncé revealed her long-hidden musical past and her restored patriotism with the release of her most recent album, “Act II, Cowboy Carter,” on March 29. Whether you enjoy Beyoncé’s music or not, her album and accompanying personal style served as a catalyst for the 2024 trend I refer to as Americana chic.
How Did Americana Chic Become So Popular in 2024?
In my opinion, Americana Chic grew more popular after Kamala Harris succeeded Biden. I believe that for a lot of people, it turned into a period of rekindled optimism and delight connected to our nationality. The summer Olympics, which included Ralph Lauren, the renowned American designer, as its uniform designer, arrived just after all of this enthusiasm.
TVs in living rooms, pubs, and gyms all around the United States showed these incredible sportsmen representing our nation. Athletes who won gold after medal while expressing happiness, excitement, and friendship with athletes worldwide as well as with their own countrymen. To prosper, America doesn’t need to be a dick.
I’m sure it gave me a rush. Before I knew it, I was looking for sweatshirts with the American flag on them. I ultimately purchased an oatmeal-colored, 100% cotton one from Lands’ End since I adored the timeless look. I once again felt like I could fly our national flag without it being associated with hatred.
In addition, I was drawn to the Polo store on my visit to the Rehoboth Beach outlet mall, where I purchased the pink oxford shirt of my undergraduate dreams in an oversized fit that I still love. Since I was dog-earring pages of the J. Crew catalogue and wearing my L.L. Bean farm jacket with a Britches flannel and my 501s, I hadn’t given wearing Polo any thought.
There was a strong Americana Chic element to Pharrell Williams’ Fall/Winter 2024 Louis Vuitton collection. In addition to these “Cowboy Core” ensembles, Williams included 20th-century American styles like flight jackets and track trousers.
Good American labels from the past and those that are still in business have seen a resurgence because to trends like thrifting, finding old American clothing, re-visiting American quality companies, and even enjoying American films and TV shows from decades past.
For instance, did you know that there are now authentic Carhartt jackets available? And much better if they’re all bruised. wear fact, others are making their own DIY versions after witnessing designer Veronica Beard wear a bleached-out Carhartt on TikTok. Additionally, there is a high-end variation of the renowned brand Carhartt that features refined runway-ready incarnations.
What is Americana Chic?
Americana Chic combines nostalgia with an awareness of our shortcomings. It’s acknowledging that, although we still have a long way to go as a nation, if we don’t believe in ourselves, we will never succeed.
Americana Chic pays homage to the fashion history of our nation, encompassing the red carpet designers and the American workwear companies that have been a mainstay for many years.
Furthermore, Americana Chic is reachable. It’s thrift store worthy. It could be in your attic, perhaps. It can be knitted or sewn. It is available in both new and vintage forms, and there isn’t a particular hue, pattern, or material that would instantly turn off a lot of Americans.
coats from barns. rugby jerseys. Sweaters for fishermen. stripes of mariners. More denim—plenty and lots of denim. western shoes. Previously owned clothing from American labels that lasted until the 20th century. 100% natural fibres, produced in the United States of America. vintage dating to the early 21st and late 20th centuries. American fashion labels—that is, if they remain in operation. Additionally, it’s fashion in 2024 to add your own unique touch to your wardrobe, so feel free to DIY anything to suit your preferences and needs.
Inspiration on How to Wear Americana Chic as a Grown Woman
When a trend or style idea is something we’ve already worn, it can be challenging. To what extent may we take things literally? Will we appear current or as like we haven’t updated our wardrobe in a long time? It doesn’t follow that we can repeat the same steps exactly just because we’ve already completed them.
Keeping one foot in 2024 is crucial. Embrace the nostalgia, wear old college sweaters, thrift the same barn coat you owned decades ago, but always make sure it’s contemporary. As you can see below, I do that using denim silhouettes and fashionable footwear and accessories.
Go Classic
Classic pieces perfect for a New England shore or a college campus, but dressed up for 2024. The bag, lip colour, earrings and organic cotton mariner sweater are from women designers; the jeans keep you current with their on-trend silhouette; and the clogs, though not exactly American, are a nostalgic American trend that is a college mainstay, durable and comfortable.
Denim on Denim
This fall, denim on denim is a major trend, and there are no rules about how to wear it. Everything from retro western snap shirts to Japanese ringspun denim architectural concept pieces will be on display. Additionally, it’s a fantastic way to embrace the Americana Chic style. Here, I paired a vintage Coach pocketbook, vintage Ray-Ban Wayfarers, a rather understated western belt, and a Wrangler shirt and Ariat shoes for a western feel. With a hint of Americana Chic, it’s simultaneously western, artful, and rock n’ roll.
I personally own this belt, and I appreciate that it looks excellent with jeans and pants and is available in expanded sizes and numerous colours. This is a simple method to give your trousers a touch of Americana Chic for the office or social gatherings.
Western and cowboy boots are something you may have in your closet for a very long time if you get high-quality, comfy pieces. You know your style, so decide whether a pair of vibrantly decorated shoes may be your go-to look or whether a discreet colour and design that you can wear when the mood strikes would be more appropriate.
Original or Out
To embrace both our modern style and our history is to embody Americana Chic. Purchase the original if you want to dress in an Indigenous-inspired manner. Collaboration between American brand Faherty and Native American woman-owned business b.Yellowtail resulted in this jumper duster. The same brand is represented by the earrings.
The jeans are available in regular, petite, and tall sizes up to 3X, while the boots are available in three different sizes. The brand offers discounts for first responders, teachers, students, nurses, doctors, and the military. The shirt is available in sizes XS through 3X/26.
High/Low and Dressy/Utilitarian
Are you unsure about how to style Carhartts, chore coats, and barn jackets this season? Streetstyle icons have been wearing these coats with boots, shirtdresses, and denim dresses. Even though a lot of them have boots and lower hemlines, I thought this outfit could be more appropriate for us adult women riding public transit or going to work.
Regarding weekends, consider what Martha Stewart might do. Cords and a cable-knit jumper? A dapper white shirt and tweed trousers? Duck boots, a mariner blouse, and well-worn jeans? Sounds like some Americana Chic, especially if you customised it with jewellery, belts, and silk scarves (btw, pearls are returning).
Do those boots have a familiar appearance? They’re the Frye “Melissa” that was a favoured model in the early 2000s. Bring back your ‘Penny’ Sam Edelman riding boots and other brands, and wear them with dresses and skirts that fall between the knee and the midi length this year. This isn’t a return to the “Han Solo” days of riding boots, puffer vests, and slim jeans, despite how enticing it may seem. Think 1970s, not soccer mum of Y2K.
Don’t buy tall boots if you don’t already own any and you don’t think you’ll need them. We’re mature ladies who have reached a point in life where we understand our likes and dislikes. You’re probably going to enjoy boots even less now if you weren’t a fan in the 2000s and 2010s. As an alternative, think about some structural ballerina flats with a unique toebox and/or Mary Jane strap.
