The notoriously challenging problem of psoriasis-prone skin is about to get its first treatment from Skinfix.

KP & PsO Smoothing Body Treatment by Skinfix, a $50 daily skin treatment for psoriasis and keratosis pilaris, will make its debut at Sephora in the middle of June.

“Our Resurface+ Scrub and Cream that help address KP have consistently been two of our bestselling products at Sephora,” said Amy Gordinier, founder and CEO of Skinfix. “We developed the new Resurface+ KP + PsO Smoothing Body Treatment to address both conditions based on our ongoing commitment to healing skin, including KP, and research showing psoriasis as a growing concern.”

The National Psoriasis Foundation estimates that psoriasis affects more than 3% of adult Americans or over 7.5 million people. According to statistics from the National Institutes of Health, teenagers make up the majority of KP patients, accounting for 50 to 80 percent of cases.

According to Gordinier, the product has been in development for two years and was created by dermatologist and member of the Skinfix scientific advisory board, Dr. Peter Lio.

“Through our work with dermatologists, we’ve learned that psoriasis can be challenging to treat, and we wanted to ensure the right combination of clinical actives to target this difficult skin condition along with the derm-evaluated clinical results to prove the product works,” she said.

The overproduction of skin cells, known as hyper-keratinization, is the root cause of both psoriasis and keratosis pilaris. KP & PsO Smoothing Body Treatment from Skinfix supplies a mix of clinical actives including emollients and chemical exfoliants like AHAs & BHAs for exfoliation, smoothing, and brightening, as well as barrier-restorative actives, as opposed to exfoliating with one high-percentage acid.

Although they are quite different, keratosis pilaris and psoriasis have one thing in common: they both feature hyperkeratosis or an excess of keratin. “We continue to search for topical treatments that may lessen this keratin development without being unduly harsh and that can do so. The new KP + PsO Smoothing Body Treatment successfully navigates this tricky situation by being both a potent moisturizer that can smooth and soften the skin with the best of them and mild enough to use every day without irritating the skin.

based in Nova Scotia, Canada Gordinier launched Skinfix in 2014 as a line intended to repair and preserve the skin barrier. Skinfix has been a pioneer in the development of therapeutic skin care. The business began with eczema-specific treatments and has now grown to include a variety of products for the face and body.

The Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide line and the Resurface+ line, which contains products for chemical exfoliation, are among Skinfix’s most popular items.

It acquired a small minority stake from private equity company Stride Consumer Partners in 2021. The investment’s terms were not made public, although, at the time, industry insiders predicted Skinfix’s net revenues to be close to $25 million.
