Mark and Jonnie Houston of Houston Hospitality, both from Los Angeles, said that the night starts at Level 8 with Golden Hour.
The twin brothers behind No Vacancy and Black Rabbit Rose present their newest idea: a 30,000-square-foot dining, drinking, and entertainment space on the eighth floor of the Yabu Pushelberg-designed Moxy & AC Hotel in downtown L.A.
“This project started almost five years ago,” Jonnie said. “It’s the result of Mark and I travelling all over the world and putting together our wildest dreams of events we wanted to relive. This project was the best way to bring everything together on one floor.”
The boys thought about what would bring their friends downtown. They said that the best thing about Level 8 is that you can find many different choices in one place.
“You can have appetisers here, dinner here, and desserts there,” said Mark.
Then have a party.
There are eight venues, but Sinners y Santos stands out as an abandoned church from the 19th century that has been turned into a venue for a surprising activity (which is still a surprise). Ray Garcia’s Qué Bábaro serves South American food. Joshua Gil’s Maison Kasai serves teppanyaki, and Hisae Stuck’s Lucky Mizu serves shabu-shabu. Mr Wanderlust, a piano bar and jazz club, is likely to be busy late at night. Golden Hour, on the other hand, is a pool area that serves snacks and drinks all day and night.

“Come to Level 8 for happy hour at Golden Hour and spend the night,” Jonnie said. “For us, that’s the best way to start our Level 8 adventure.”
It looks like an exotic place from the 1970s and has a pool and cabanas. The best part is a spinning carousel bar that was made in partnership with Paul Basile of Basile Studio.
“We want it to look like the top of a pineapple,” Mark said.
With a range of tiki drinks, the drinks match the setting. Mai tais are Trader Vic’s original recipe, and they are served in the glasses that are their trademark.
“We’re paying tribute to one of the pioneers of tiki in the U.S.,” said Jonnie.
You can get a golden burger, lemon pepper wings, and a number of different soups.
“Things that people would want around a pool,” said Mark.

Now, you can try out Golden Hour, and on September 13, there will be a launch party.
