Erin Beatty of Rentrayage talks about designing for a climate crisis and new home goods.

Rentrayage designer Erin Beatty celebrated the official retail debut of her home brand, “Hereafter Home,” with a sneak peek on Monday morning at ABC Carpet & Home.

She previewed her ready-to-wear spring 2024 collection at the same time as the home launch. The home retailer’s Manhattan headquarters hosted a month-long pop-up event that included window displays created by Rentrayage.

Beatty’s concept for Rentrayage, and her client, is dressing for the climate problem. The word “mending” is French. She said during the preview, “It feels like no one is really talking about it at fashion week.” Beatty was so frustrated with the fashion industry that she moved to Connecticut, where she now lives. She mostly gets materials from the East Coast, where products are produced in Portugal and New York.

Using everything and wasting nothing is the Rentrayage mentality in a world where there is too much stuff. Beatty hopes that the collection comes off as “cool” and “elevated”—which, as the most recent edit suggests, it does. Her own brand included pottery, tablecloths, glasswares in a variety of colours, and other amusing décor items.

Although Beatty’s passion is in upcycling and reworking clothing, she also gravitates towards organic cotton in order to create a well-rounded wardrobe. The ready-to-wear collection included her typical shirting, cargo pants and denim pieces along with a lot of airy, dainty flower designs.

The designer said that “working with production partners to streamline consistency” in her designs has been the most change since Rentrayage’s initial debut. Beatty acknowledges that she has figured out the solution, but unique designs provide a difficulty.

Though nothing has been disclosed as of yet, expect to see Rentrayage take a larger interest in household furnishings, including draperies and bed linens.
